History

The Star Press formed this charitable organization in 1997. Our charity specifically targets those agencies that help the neediest of our children. The Star Press realizes that the success of its business is tied directly to the health and vitality of our community, and that the community in which we live and work will be shaped by today's youths. Their well-being today is an important investment in the future of our community. Children's needs are our sole priority.

The Star Press Children's Charities seeks to help local youths by:
• Helping to build a better community for them
• Improving their quality of life
• Broadening the opportunities for them to learn
• Providing financial assistance to programs that serve them.

Mission

Our mission is to raise funds to be donated via a grant application process to non-profit organizations to support programs that benefit local youths. The activities of the organization includes raising funds, soliciting grant applications, reviewing the applications and awarding grants to qualified recipients.

Fund-Raising

The Star Press has orchestrated countless fundraisers over the years, the most recent and largest fund-raisers has been the Baby of the Year Contest and Holiday Fund.

The Baby of the Year contest is a simple voting contest where parents or grandparents submit their babies' photo; they are placed online and in a special section of The Star Press, and then voted upon during a specific time period. The baby with the top votes wins. The Star Press produces a calendar featuring the top 13 babies. Is there anything better than babies helping other babies?

The Star Press Holiday Fund solicits donations through running promotional ads in The Star Press, The Yorktown Press, the Advertiser and corporate mailings during the Holiday Season. Many individuals and group donors in the community have contributed as well throughout the years.

You can help spread holiday cheer throughout the new year now by sending your donation to The Star Press Children's Charities this holiday season. Donors to the Holiday Fund will be recognized with their names published in The Star Press. Donors also have the option of remaining anonymous.
